MT. BAKER PRE-SEASON REPORT – Possible Opening Saturday 11/20 . . .

Newson November 17th, 2010No Comments

The storms are rolling in fast and thick!  We received 8 inches of new snow Tuesday night, to bring our base at Heather Meadows to 18 inches.  Forecasts are calling for up to another 2 feet of new snow possible by Thursday!

Depending on how much snow we actually get, as well as the upcoming forecast, we could be looking at a possible limited OPENING DAY on Saturday or Sunday.  A decision on opening will be made Friday, and we will update this report daily.

Mt. Baker Ski Area . . . Opening Day . . .

News, Recreationon November 5th, 2010No Comments

OPENING DAY 2010-11

Mt. Baker opens as soon as we receive enough snowfall to do so; the amount of snowfall needed depends on the quality of snow and how it packs down. That usually ranges from 24 – 36 inches to allow a limited opening and we typically open around mid-to-end of November.

Because we do not manufacture snow at Mt. Baker, and because the weather is so variable from year-to-year, it is impossible for us to set a definitive Opening Day in advance.  However, once we see a favorable short-term forecast and conditions look favorable, we try to give a “soft” warning a week or so in advance, and give a 1 – 3 day advance notice of a set Opening Day.  That information is posted first here on our website, and also is available on our snow report phone line at               360-671-0211         360-671-0211.
