Forecasts are calling for a strong front to bring us 15 – 20 inches of new snow over tonight and tomorrow. This snow, added to our existing base, will give us the amount needed to begin the 2011-12 season. We started clearing snow off the road to Artist Point on Tuesday, July 5. We’re working to reopen the first mile of roadway up to the Heather Meadows visitor center and lower parking lot. We should have it open in another week or so. I got some great pictures http://www.flickr.com/photos/wsdot/5906076663/in/set-72157626960626563 of our guys working in the shadows of Mount Shuksan. It was a much nicer day this time compared to when I went up for the scouting trip. The sun was actually out and I could see the surrounding peaks. It’s a beautiful area up there.

We’re going to leave the two miles of roadway above the visitor center closed because there’s just simply too much snow this year, and we couldn’t clear it in a reasonable amount of time for a reasonable price. If you’re game for a short hike in the snow, you can still get up to Artist Point from the visitor center. And if you’re not, the views from the visitor center are still amazing.

If you have been reading the forecasts, you know that a BIG WINTER is on the way. Now is time to start gearing up for the season and our Ski & Snowboard Swap is a great way to kick start the process.
Best Swap Around!
The Sportsman Chalet’s swap is better than any other swap for many reasons.
First, you can get 110% in-store credit to buy anything in our shop (sell your board for $100, get $110 for that new pair of boots!) or 75% cash.
Second, our expert staff is on hand to assist you in determining what is appropriate for your needs. 
What will be at the Swap?
 Our swap will feature reps samples, used demos, rentals, lots of used kids gear and anything else you bring to sell. Please feel free to bring your gear in for an assessment from one of our experienced staff members prior to the 16th to determine what may need replacing.
When should I bring my gear in? 
Gear drop off starts this Monday the 11th and runs through Friday the 15th. Not sure what to price your gear at? our staff will be happy to help in setting a value. The sale starts at 9am Saturday the 16th and runs through the 17th. Get here early for the best selection. If you still have questions please call the shop.  
Where will it be? 
At Sportsman Chalet’s new location next to Trader Joe’s at the corner of James St. and Alabama.
